Elementary School:
Grades 1 - 2

Lower elementary classrooms occupy their own hallway off the
lunchroom where there is one full time assistant
for each grade. The foundation that was laid in Kindergarten is
expanded in the first and second grades. The language arts program
includes the phonetically based reading series "A Legacy of
Literacy" by Houghton Miflin, Saxon Phonics, and spelling. Reading
and writing are emphasized
through book reports and in-class
creative writing. They continue to use Saxon Math, and explore
science in more depth with textbooks and hands on activities.
Art
is added to the curriculum in first grade and Computer is added in second
grade.
The spring semester of Music concentrates on a musical play that is
performed by the all of the first and second graders for family and
friends in late April.
Grades 3 - 5
Grades
Three through Five share a hallway, where there are three teachers
and one assistant for each grade. Upper Elementary students
continue to expand their knowledge in the areas of reading, writing
and math, while science and social studies take on a more prominent
role in the curriculum. The science lab becomes a part of the
science program beginning in the fourth grade. Art, Music,
P.E. and Computer are also an important part of the curriculum.
As a part of the music program, the upper elementary perform a
Christmas musical for their family and friends in December.
Beginning in Fifth Grade, opportunities for
extracurricular activities include football and cheerleading.
Grade 6
Sixth
Grade is a year of transition, students are getting ready to leave
the Elementary School and join the Junior High. To help
ease this transition our Sixth Grade is departmentalized, students
have three teachers and, for the first time, change classes during
the school day. Language Arts, Math, Science and Social
Studies along with P.E., Art, and Computer make
up
the curriculum.
The Sixth Graders have a hallway to themselves
where their lockers and their classrooms are located. There is
one assistant for the Sixth Grade classes.
It is also during Sixth Grade that students are
given the opportunity to take beginning Band. Students work
with the band director to choose an instrument and are given
instruction in playing that instrument.
Extracurricular activities include football and
cheerleading.
