BIBLE STUDY
Is it important to have a daily Bible study? I hope by the end of this lesson you will be able to answer this question.
A Bible study is simply what the words imply, a time where one studies the truths of the Bible. Study is a word that many of us are not to familiar with, to study means to intensely focus upon the task at hand, meditate on it, understand it and apply to your life in this case.
Why have a Bible study?
John 14: 15 If you love me, you will obey what I command.
John 14: 21Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.”
John 14: 23Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. 24He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.
Now we stand at a crossroad when faced with these questions: Do I love Jesus? Do I want to obey Him? ( Is Jesus someone that deserves to be obeyed? If you obey someone I feel that this question is the one that is really answered, the higher the respect that you have for someone and the higher the worth you place on that person the more willing you are to obey that person.)
So, back to the question at hand, do I love Jesus? If yes, what does Jesus say about loving Him? (Your love will be SHOWN, how?)
Can I say that I love Jesus, if I do not obey His commands? How can I obey His commands if I do not know them? How can I know them unless I STUDY them?
Other Scripture that talks about studying scripture:
Joshua 1: 8Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
Psalms 119: 9 How can a young man keep his way pure?
By living according to your word.
10 I seek you with all my heart;
do not let me stray from your commands.
11 I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.
12 Praise be to you, O LORD;
teach me your decrees.
13 With my lips I recount
all the laws that come from your mouth.
14 I rejoice in following your statutes
as one rejoices in great riches.
15 I meditate on your precepts
and consider your ways.
16 I delight in your decrees;
I will not neglect your word.
Psalms 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light for my path.
The writers of these verses put great emphasis on the Word of God. I pray that we will understand, like these writers that we need direction, insight, correction, rebuke, training in righteousness from the Word of God so that we may be equipped to do what God has planned for our lives.
2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
If you say Jesus is your treasure then you must treasure the Word of God as well. Why is this a true statement?
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning.3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.
John 1: 14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
