SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINE

 1

Ephesians 2:4-9 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together £with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have

h    The new creation is present but, there still exists a battle between the new creation and our old creation.

h    We must deny this old self daily by dying to it, crucifying the old self.

Luke 9:23 And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.

Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.

Mark 8:34 And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.

Galatians 2:20  “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.

Romans 12:1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

h    How do we crucify, die to this old self?   By renewing your mind.

Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the

renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is

good and acceptable and perfect.

h    How do you renew your mind?

à One renews their mind through discipline but not just any discipline.  Biblical discipline, so we will learn several Spiritual Disciplines, in meetings to come, each disciplined will be view in line with scripture.
