What is Salvation?

The deliverance (release, rescuing) from the penalty (consequences, wages) and the power (control) of sin.  The penalty of sin is death. Not just a physical death but to be dead spiritually, and a recipient of God’s wrath. The power of sin is to continue as a slave to sin.

Ø      Salvation is Jesus Christ bearing the wrath of God for the one who believes. One who believes has been redeemed, bought back, for a price that only Jesus Christ could pay

à1 Corinthians 6: 20For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.

à1 Corinthians 7: 23You were bought with a price; do not become slaves of men.

Ø     Salvation is a gift from a Holy God.  Therefore, it is not earned nor worked for.

àEphesians 2: 8For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

àRomans 6: 23For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ø      Salvation comes from one source and one source only, JESUS CHRIST is the mediator (the way, the deliverance) of this grace.

àActs 4: 12“And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”

àJohn 14: 6Jesus said* to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

à1 John 2: 1My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; 2and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.

Ø      Salvation the deliverance from God’s wrath as a result of your sin.

àJohn 3: 36“He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

àRomans 5: 9Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. 10For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

Jesus is the Gift of Salvation.  Conclusion: It is all about Jesus!

Ø      Am I guilty of sin?

Ø      What must be done with my sin?
